History

Sir James Miller (1905-1977) trained as an architect under his father before succeeding him at the helm of a then one-man practice. He designed and commissioned his first housing scheme in Blackhall, Edinburgh in 1925, having been motivated by a developer’s lack of interest in the project. The Company was founded under the name James Miller & Partners Limited in 1934 as business growth saw James’ two brothers, John and Lawrence, join as Directors.

From its Edinburgh base, the Company expanded into the West of Scotland and after 1945 commenced house building in England. During the post-war years, new build agendas saw the company providing much needed housing stock.

Miller Homes has continued to develop a variety of house types across the United Kingdom.[clarification needed]
