Laing O'Rourke

Laing O’Rourke plc is the largest privately owned construction firm in the UK. It has offices in the UK, Ireland, Germany, India, Australia and United Arab Emirates, with over 24,837 employees worldwide. The chairman and Chief Executive is Ray O’Rourke. Turnover £3,037 billion, profit £111 million, in year to April 08. [The Sunday Times, Top Track 100, June 2008] The company is owned by the O'Rourke family through Suffolk Partners Corperation.

History

It was formed by the merger of both British and Irish construction companies. Laing O'Rourke was formed in 2001 when John Laing plc sold its interest in Laing Construction to R. O'Rourke & Son Ltd [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1566584.stm Laing shares half in value] ] .

Major projects

Major projects involving the company have included the reconstruction of Ascot Racecourse completed in time for the 2006 race season.

On 30 August 2006, as part of a joint venture, Laing O'Rourke were named "Delivery Partner for the London 2012 Olympics". Property developer APH Capital Partners have enlisted the help of Laing O’Rourke as its preferred design and construct contractor to construct what will become Brisbane’s tallest tower. The tower will be 265m high and 70 levels, comprising commercial offices, luxury residences and a five-star hotel.
