Good Homes Alliance

Good Homes Alliance

The Good Homes Alliance is a group committed to promoting sustainable development in housing in the United Kingdom. Members include housing developers, building professionals, suppliers, landowners, sustainability experts, as well as other interested companies and organisations.

Developer members have to make the commitment that at least 50% of their new homes will meet EcoHomes 'Excellent' standard, will emit at least 70% less carbon dioxide (compared to the UK average for the building type in 2003), and that will be monitored and assessed after occupation. They also subscribe to a charter containing eight further principles.

In addition to construction and promotion of its developments, the Alliance will be involved in education (through seminars, research, and information sharing), lobbying Government and land owners to encourage sustainability legislation and specifications, and raising awareness of sustainable development in the media and among the general public.

Founding

The Good Homes Alliance is to be officially launched on Wednesday February 28, 2007 at the "Ecobuild 2007" exhibition. It was founded by four housing developers - BioRegional Quintain, Cornhill Estates, Kingerlee Homes, and Swan Country Homes, together with Natural Building Technologies, the Sustainable Development Foundation, The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment, Working Group, and the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies at University College London. Other organisations have since joined.
