List of Magic: The Gathering characters: W

The fictional multiverse of the Wizards of the Coast Magic: The Gathering trading card game, introduced in 1993, has many characters. This alphabetic list includes characters to which the flavor text on the cards is atributted or who are mentioned in it, along with those referred in related games, novels, comics or short stories.

Waffa

A sorcerer of Nyomba (Card: Ethereal Champion)

Waistcoat

An "unman," or two-dimensional semi-sentient mobile escape gateway created by Ixidor in his own image. After Ixidor's defeat, Waistcoat was one of three remaining unmen left without their creator to control them. He paired up with another unman and the two decided to explore Otaria by themselves. Initially taking on the name "Puddle" due to the shrunken, unclear outline he soon developed, he eventually began to call himself "Waistcoat" after he and his companion, Sash, attempted to enter high society disguised heavily in fancy clothing. After numerous misadventures, including spending time as cockroaches in the service of the Cabal Patriarch, Sash and Waistcoat became unofficial guides and sidekicks to Karona. Their magical nature rendered them apparently immune to the hypnotic effect she had on other creatures. While they sympathised with her troubles and sought to make her enemies understand her predicament, they eventually saw the necessity of ending her existence and were able to stab her through the back with Kamahl's sword.

A pious man on the planes of Rabiah. He had been blessed with many sons, many jewels, and a great many camels. (Arabian Nights)

Wasitora

A wild Nekoru catdragon of Jamuraa. She challenges the tribal fight and becomes a Nekoru queen. Afterward she flies to Sekana village of Madara Empire for tending and delivering her children. There she meets and pars with the Imperial Champion tetsuo Umezawa and then pledges her oath to protect the Sekana villager. Her children fight Kentsu soldiers who invade Sakana after Tetsuo rebellion and her great-grandchildren still live there in rift-era. (Legends, The Monster of Magic Anthology)

Weaver King

The Weaver King is a malignant ghost-like being, forever trapped in a shadowy limbo. He is the main antagonist of the book Planar Chaos. He wants to make the entire world population his subjects, so that he can manipulate them for his own amusement. He also seeks to find himself a suitable body to inhabit. Because of his teleportation abilities, Venser becomes his target, to the point where he obsesses about destroying Venser's soul so he can steal his body. It is known that (with tremendous effort) Planeswalkers can harm him.

His powers include mind-control with silvery strands of intangible thread, intangibility, and the ability to send thoughts to (as well as enter) one's mind. When in a persons mind, he can see out of their eyes, and hear sounds they can hear. The Weaver King dislikes killing people unless necessary, as he can send strands from one person to everyone else he or she knows, just by meeting that single person. His mind-control isn't mind-control in the strict sense, as he simply suggests things to his victim, who feels compelled to obey him, no matter how absurd or deranged the command. He is implied to have numerous followers, none of which even detect his presence. Furthermore, the Weaver King is immune to almost all types of harm, as a fireball thrown by Freyalise passes straight through him.

He is first encountered in Urborg, but secretly follows Venser to Skyshroud. The Weaver King was originally a barbarian named Oleg-il-Dal, who sought refuge in the City of Traitors. The Evincar took him to experiment on, until there was no body left, only his soul. He trained his body guard, Dinne-il-Vec, a spectral dart thrower who can enter a corporeal and incorporeal form at will. The Weaver King generally taunts Venser ad his allies throughout the book, having others do his work for him. Near the end however, Leshrac assumes the role of the Weaver King's master. Venser battles him at the end of Planar Chaos, and defeats him by feigning surrender, and offering two charged power crystals as a token of his cooperation. The Weaver King takes the crystals, and Venser teleports away, detonating them from a safe distance. It is implied the Weaver King is killed, but with his almost-immortal state, it is hard to tell.

Windgrace

A panther warrior and planeswalker living on Urborg. As one of the Nine Titans Lord Windgrace helped destroy Phyrexia. After the death of Taysir, Windgrace performed a funeral ceremony in which he took the heart out of the corpse and placed it in his own body, a custom in Urborg to prevent Lich Lords from animating the body. (Apocalypse)

Windgrace appears in name only in Time Spiral as the leader of the Gladehunters, an organization composed of all of Urborg's creatures dedicated to eradicating artifacts and those that build them. He has a much more prominent role in Planar Chaos, where he battles the Weaver King, alternate reality Phyrexians and attempts to save Urborg in the process. Ultimately he sacrifices himself much as Freyalise, a fellow planeswalker, did; by throwing himself into the planar rift above his beloved Urborg. He leaves behind a piece of himself so that if disaster strikes again his legacy will continue to protect the swamp. With a final triumphant roar he mends the wound and then vanishes in a blast of light. His fate is unknown, though he is presumed dead.
