Early life and education
He belongs to a Hindu family. Prof.Gupta actively participated in Indian freedom movements of 1942 as a result of which his studies were discontinued for many years. At the age of eleven years he was a member of Congress Seva Dal from 1944 to 1947. During this period he had been trained as a volunteer and had been also also the Nayak as well as comrade of one unit.
He faced bullets and suffered from gangrenous wound of the left leg lower part with the bone exposed. The wound it was stated caused by three bullets, being fired by American Contengency at Maheshkhunt in the district of Monghyr in August 1942. He was even imprisoned for a year. But with struggle and continue efforts as well as hardship of all Indians they succeeded.
Apart from voluntary service and academics he is also a good sportsman. During his college days he used to wrestle as a beginner under Karl Istaz ,a wrestler of British Professional wrestling promotion who was trained by Billy Riley and participated in bouts which was run by B.Dixon in Liverpool, England. Dixon's promotion tours theatres, leisure centres, town halls and similar venues, many of them old venues for televised wrestling in the UK in the 1950-1980s.
A freedom fighter who had to flee his hometown of Monghyr to avoid arrest for hoisting the Tricolour in his school during the Quit India Movement, joined Ranchi University after a brief stint at the Patna University and University of London.
Professional life
Prof.Gupta is former Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University.[1][2] He started his mentor career as demonstrator (August 1953-August 1956) and went up to post graduate lecturer (September 1956-March 1970), reader (April 1970-January 1984), university professor (February 1984 to till date), principle (June 1983-January 1986) under Indian University.
He attended many International Conferences such as First International Congress of Plant Pathology[3], held in Imperial College London, International Conference of Phytochemical Society, held in University of Hull, Scarborough, England etc.He was the only participant from India who took part in the dileberation of the was 3rd International Symposium[4] on verticillium held on August 1981 in Bari, Italy.
He is ex-councillor of Indian Phytopathological Society of India, New Delhi and former member of Bihar Intermediate Education Council, India.
