Clinton is a village in Rock County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 2,162 at the 2000 census (2007 estimate: 2,260).^[1] The village is located within the town of Clinton. The Norwegian-American settlement of Jefferson Prairie Settlement was located near the village.

Geography

Clinton is located at 42°33′23″N 88°51′52″W / 42.55639°N 88.86444°W / 42.55639; -88.86444 (42.556596, -88.864453)^[2].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²), all land.

Demographics

As of the census^[3] of 2000, there were 2,162 people, 771 households, and 541 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,652.0 people per square mile (637.2/km²). There were 815 housing units at an average density of 622.7/sq mi (240.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.48% White, 0.23% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 1.85% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. 3.19% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 771 households out of which 38.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 24.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.27.

In the village the population was spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $45,987, and the median income for a family was $54,514. Males had a median income of $38,167 versus $25,189 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,015. About 4.5% of families and 7.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.3% of those under age 18 and 13.7% of those age 65 or over.

Clinton is the home of the annual Stoopball League of America (SLA) championship in July.
