Seattle, WashingtonMarcus Bell Nash (born March 26, 1957 in Seattle, Washington) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2006. Since 2007, he has been the president of the church's South America West Area, which includes the nations of Peru and Bolivia.
Biography
Nash grew up in the Seattle area and was raised as a Latter-day Saint. As a young man, he served as a LDS Church missionary in the El Salvador San Salvador Mission of the church. In 1979, he married Shelley Hatch in the Salt Lake Temple. They had known each other growing up, having lived in the same neighborhood since Nash was about eight years old. The Nashes are the parents of five children.
Nash worked on the construction of the Seattle Washington Temple during the summer of 1979. He received a bachelor's degree in international relations and a law degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Since then, he has been an attorney and partner in the law firm of Stafford, Fray, Cooper.
In the LDS Church, Nash has served as a bishop and elders quorum president. From 1991 until 2001, he was president of the Lynnwood Washington Stake. From 2001 to 2006 Nash was an area seventy.
In April 2006, Nash became a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. In August 2007, Nash became the second counselor in presidency of the South America West Area. Following the October 2007 call of the South America West Area President, Walter F. González, as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy, Nash was to succeed González as the president of the South America West Area.
