Ulisses Soares (born
2 October 1958 ) has been ageneral authority ofThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since April 2005.Soares was born in
São Paulo ,Brazil , the son of Appareciso and Mercedes Carecho Soares. His family joined the LDS Church when he was about five. As a young man, Soares served as aMormon missionary in the BrazilRio de Janeiro Mission.Soares was educated at the Pontificia Catholic University in Brazil. Prior to his call as a general authority, Soares was employed as the director of temporal affairs for the Brazil South Area of the LDS Church. He had worked for Pirelli Tire Company but was convinced by Donald L. Clark to take a job as a senior auditor for the church. After Clark was called as a
mission president , Soares replaced him as director of temporal affairs.In 1995, Soares served as the first president of the São Paulo Brazil

First Quorum of the Seventy .Soares is married to Rosana Fernandes Morgado, who he initially met when they were both missionaries in the Brazil Rio de Janeiro Mission. They have three children.
