William R. Walker

William R. Walker

William Russell Walker (born 25 May 1944) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2002.

Walker was born and raised in Raymond, Alberta, Canada. As a young man, he was a LDS Church missionary in Japan. After his mission, Walker was educated at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he met his future wife, Vicki Van Wagenen. They were married in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1968 and became the parents of five children.

Prior to becoming a general authority, Walker lived and worked in Vancouver, British Columbia; Salt Lake City; Concord, California; Dunwoody, Georgia; and Kenilworth, Illinois. Walker worked for American Express, Citibank, and Barclay's Bank and was a member of the board of directors of the Beneficial Financial Group.

In the LDS Church, Walker twice was a bishop of a ward, and from 1990 to 1993 he was the president of the church's Japan Tokyo South Mission. In April 2002, while serving as the president of the church's Sandy Utah Cottonwood Creek Stake, Walker became a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy. In April 2008, Walker became a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy.
