William Russell Walker (born
25 May 1944 ) has been ageneral authority ofThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2002.Walker was born and raised in Raymond,
Alberta ,Canada . As a young man, he was a LDS Church missionary inJapan . After his mission, Walker was educated atBrigham Young University in Provo,Utah , where he met his future wife, Vicki Van Wagenen. They were married inSalt Lake City , Utah, in 1968 and became the parents of five children.Prior to becoming a general authority, Walker lived and worked in
Vancouver ,British Columbia ;Salt Lake City ; Concord,California ; Dunwoody, Georgia; and Kenilworth,Illinois . Walker worked forAmerican Express ,Citibank , andBarclay's Bank and was a member of the board of directors of theBeneficial Financial Group .In the LDS Church, Walker twice was a bishop of a ward, and from 1990 to 1993 he was the president of the church's Japan
Tokyo South Mission. In April 2002, while serving as the president of the church's Sandy Utah Cottonwood Creek Stake, Walker became a member of theSecond Quorum of the Seventy . In April 2008, Walker became a member of theFirst Quorum of the Seventy .References
