Eastwood Railway Station is a railway station on the Northern line of the CityRail network. It serves a well-established residential and commercial area in the suburb of Eastwood.

History

The station opened on 17 September 1886 on the single track line, named 'Dundas'. It was renamed Eastwood on 1 September 1887. In 2004 the platforms were extended towards Epping to allow 8-car Intercity trains to service the platforms.

On 8 March 2006 it was revealed by the local state member of Parliament, Mr Andrew Tink, that asbestos fibre had been disturbed by contractors working in the roof of the ticketing office at the station. They were installing cabling for the TCard integrated ticketing project. The station offices were temporarily closed and replaced by a temporary booking office in the station carpark. No reason for the office closure had been given to the public who use the station prior to this announcement. Platforms/Service

The station is served by two trains per hour for most of the time, with additional trains at peak hours. It is also normally served by one hourly Intercity train to Strathfield and Central, as well as one to Gosford and Wyong. Some of these continue to Newcastle.

As a result of the construction of the Epping to Chatswood Line the station is being used as a temporary terminating station for trains that would normally terminate at Epping. Many of the intercity trains that normally stop at Epping are also currently stopping at Eastwood to enable interchange between suburban and intercity trains.

Accessibility/Exits

has promised a new wheelchair accessible ramp on the eastern side and lifts to the two platforms. This upgrade is now in progress.

Bus Services

Eastwood is a large connection point for many of the Northwestern routes of Sydney Buses. Currently, the routes served at the bus interchange are:
*515 - City (Queen Victoria Building, Sydney) via West Ryde, Gladesville, Drummoyne and Rozelle. (There is also an express peak hour bus on the same route (X15).)
*521 - Parramatta Railway Station via Mobbs Lane, Dundas and Rydalmere.
*541 - Epping Railway Station.
*542 - Auburn Railway Station via Ermington, Newington & Silverwater (outbound); Denistone East (Smalls Rd) (inbound).
*543 - West Ryde Railway Station via Denistone West.
*544 - Auburn Railway Station via Ermington, Newington & Silverwater (outbound); Macquarie Centre via Marsfield (inbound).
*545 - Parramatta Railway Station via Dundas Valley (outbound); Chatswood Railway Station via Marsfield, Macquarie Centre, Macquarie Park and Chatswood West (inbound).
*549 - Marsfield (Busaco Rd) via Vimera Road.
*550 - Peak hour only service to Parramatta Railway Station via Dundas (Kissing Pt Road) (outbound); Chatswood Railway Station via Marsfield, Macquarie Centre and Chatswood West (inbound).

All services except the 549 depart from the bus interchange on the Western Side of the Station (West Pde). The 549, as well as the 545 & 550 also depart from the bus stand on the Eastern Side of the station (East Pde).
