Barrabool was first incorporated as a district on 28 December 1853, and became a shire on 13 June 1865. On 31 May 1927, it annexed part of the
Shire of Winchelsea . City of Greater Geelong . On 9 March 1994, the Shire was abolished, and merged withShire of Winchelsea and part of the formerCity of South Barwon into theSurf Coast Shire .Wards
