The population of Oakland borough was 622 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Oakland is located at 41°56′58″N 75°36′30″W / 41.94944°N 75.60833°W (41.949506, -75.608428)[1].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²), of which, 0.4 square miles (1.2 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (8.00%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 622 people, 224 households, and 172 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,374.1 people per square mile (533.7/km²). There were 248 housing units at an average density of 547.9/sq mi (212.8/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.75% White, 0.16% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.80% Asian, and 0.80% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.16% of the population.
There were 224 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% were married couples living together, 14.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 21.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the borough the population was spread out with 28.9% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 107.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.6 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $35,673, and the median income for a family was $37,039. Males had a median income of $26,875 versus $19,500 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $13,363. About 10.3% of families and 14.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.8% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
