Dimock Township is a township in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,398 at the 2000 census. It is the home of former U.S. Congressman Chris Carney, a Democrat who represented Pennsylvania's 10th congressional district from 2007 to 2011.

As of 2010 natural gas companies in the area conduct "fracking" to extract natural gas.[1]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 29.8 square miles (77 km2), of which, 29.4 square miles (76 km2) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2) of it (1.48%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,398 people, 520 households, and 391 families residing in the township. The population density was 47.6 people per square mile (18.4/km²). There were 680 housing units at an average density of 23.1/sq mi (8.9/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.64% White, 0.43% African American, 0.14% Asian, 0.29% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.36% of the population.

There were 520 households out of which 36.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.3% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% were non-families. 19.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the township the population was spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 102.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $35,104, and the median income for a family was $39,519. Males had a median income of $29,464 versus $21,364 for females. The per capita income for the township was $15,216. About 9.8% of families and 13.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.2% of those under age 18 and 11.8% of those age 65 or over.
