New Milford is located at 41°52′35″N 75°43′35″W / 41.876447°N 75.726445°W.[1]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 878 people, 352 households, and 240 families residing in the borough. The population density was 848.2 people per square mile (326.0/km2). There were 396 housing units at an average density of 382.6 per square mile (147.0/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.75% White, 0.80% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.11% of the population.
There were 352 households out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.6% were married couples living together, 15.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the borough the population was spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.8 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $31,012, and the median income for a family was $33,571. Males had a median income of $26,029 versus $17,333 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $14,733. About 13.4% of families and 13.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.7% of those under age 18 and 1.6% of those age 65 or over.
