Solutions offered include on-demand software for automating import and export processes (such as Product Classification and management using Export Control Classification Number and Harmonized System numbers), providing order and shipment visibility, calculating tariffs, duties, and taxes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and simplifying the financing, sourcing, and transporting of goods across international borders[1]
Management Dynamics was founded in 1990 by John and James Preuninger. The company currently has 13,000 global users in a variety of industries, including 3PLs, ocean carriers, brokers, manufacturers, retailers, and high technology companies.[2] Management Dynamics is headquartered in East Rutherford, New Jersey and has offices in Rockville, Maryland; Cary, North Carolina; Chertsey, United Kingdom; Bangalore, India; and Zurich, Switzerland.[3]

History
Management Dynamics was founded in 1990 by James Preuninger, who maintains his role as CEO of the company. Prior to founding Management Dynamics, James Preuninger founded an ERP and Supply Chain Management VAR and developed an automated tariff management system for the containerized transportation space. In 1999, developed the first fully automated contract management system for carriers, shippers, and logistics service providers. Mr. James Preuninger holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Drexel University.[4]
James' brother, John Preuninger, is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Management Dynamics. For the past 14 years, John has managed the sales, research and development, and service organizations for Management Dynamics. Previously, John was a strategy consultant at Monitor Company advising multi-national corporations on business strategy and execution. John has a Master's degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Drexel University.[4]
Acquisitions
BridgePoint
In 2005, Management Dynamics acquired BridgePoint, a provider of supply chain visibility and event management solutions. The acquisition resulted in a more complete portfolio of on-demand solutions that manage and optimize global supply chains. BridgePoint was Management Dynamics’ first acquisition and provided a complementary solution offering, and an existing customer base of multi-national companies such as Apple Computer, Best Buy, FedEx Supply Chain Services, Hyundai Motor America, Levi Strauss & Co., and the WorldWide Retail Exchange.[5]
BridgePoint was founded in 1998 to provide supply chain visibility solutions using an on-demand delivery model and offer a source of supply chain information to synchronize inbound and outbound logistics processes. At the time, BridgePoint had over 3,000 users in 63 countries and 20 million transactions per month. The acquisition expanded the portfolio of Management Dynamics’ on-demand solutions which enable importers, exporters, logistics service providers, and others in the supply chain network to efficiently manage complex, global supply chains.[5]
Regarding the deal, Adrian Gonzalez of industry analyst ARC Advisory Group noted, “This acquisition combines the complementary strengths of Management Dynamics and BridgePoint to offer clients a differentiated value proposition."[5] This acquisition also prepared Management Dynamics for its second acquisition of 2005, Nextlinx Corp.
NextLinx
Later in 2005, Management Dynamics acquired NextLinx Corporation, a developer of international trade compliance technology and content. The acquisition resulted in a comprehensive portfolio of enterprise software and on-demand services to plan, optimise and execute global trade operations. Beth Enslow, VP Enterprise Research of Aberdeen Group, a business research firm, states that at the time, "Terms for the acquisition were not disclosed; however, Management Dynamics reported the purchase price as being 50% larger as measured by revenue. Management Dynamics is retaining all NextLinx employees, bringing the total staff count up to around 350. With the acquisition, the company now has about 300 customers, including Boeing, Cisco Systems, UPS, Panasonic, Rockwell Automation, and VF Corporation." [6]
Founded in 1994, NextLinx was an established contender in this space with its enterprise software and integrated content solutions for Global 1000 enterprises. Enslow also notes, "Unlike many trade compliance competitors, the company also collects and maintains its own trade content with 100 company-employed trade analysts, plus a network of 280 in-country sources (agents), and 200 data entry operators and translators (contractors)."[6] At the time, NextLinx had over 70 customers worldwide. According to Logistics Today magazine, "Combining solutions from Nextlinx and Management Dynamics, their suite of GTM solutions now provides a unified technology platform that automates import, export, and trade agreement processes, optimises global transportation and inventory costs, and ensures that a company’s cross-border transactions are in compliance with government regulations. The acquisition will consolidate two global trade management solutions onto one platform." [7]
Partnerships
Management Dynamics has formed a strategic partnership with JDA Software Group, Inc to help companies get the most out of their globalization strategies.[8] The partnership's main goal is to link JDA's transportation and logistics management software to Management Dynamics' Global Trade Software suite. This will create an integrated solution for both trade compliance and international logistics. As noted by Dwight Klappich, a VP with research firm Gartner, "Traditionally, international logistics and trade compliance have been independent stove-pipes within global enterprises. This is no longer acceptable. Innovative organizations are now looking to integrate these processes and supporting technologies to more effectively exploit globalization." [8]
