Galesburg is a city in Traill County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 157 at the 2000 census. Galesburg was founded in 1882.

Galesburg is the home to the world's second tallest currently standing structure, the KXJB-TV mast at 627 meters. The world's tallest standing structure is 628 meters in nearby Blanchard, North Dakota, the KVLY-TV mast.

Geography

Galesburg is located at coor dms|47|16|10|N|97|24|31|W|city (47.269487, -97.408687).GR|1

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 157 people, 66 households, and 44 families residing in the city. The population density was 937.8 people per square mile (356.6/km²). There were 76 housing units at an average density of 454.0/sq mi (172.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.45% White and 2.55% Native American.

There were 66 households out of which 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.1% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 33.8% from 25 to 44, 14.6% from 45 to 64, and 21.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 137.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 127.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $43,750. Males had a median income of $27,679 versus $20,500 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,507. About 14.6% of families and 18.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 32.1% of those under the age of eighteen and 8.1% of those sixty five or over.
