Pomona is a is a village in the Town of Ramapo Rockland County, New York, United States, located north of New Hempstead; east of Harriman State Park. south of Monsey and west of Mount Ivy. The population was 2,726 at the 2000 census.

The Village of Pomona was incorporated February 3, 1967 from unincorporated areas of the towns of Haverstraw and Ramapo.

The current mayor is Nick Sanderson of the Village Community Party. Sanderson unseated incumbent and longtime mayor Herb Marshall in March 2007.

Geography

Pomona is located at coor dms|41|11|11|N|74|3|20|W|city (41.186504, -74.055417)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.3 km²), 3.6 km² (1.4 sq mi) of which is in the town of Haverstraw and 2.7 km² (1 sq mi) of which is in the town of Ramapo. All of Pomona's total area is land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 2,726 people, 906 households, and 813 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,123.0 people per square mile (433.1/km²). There were 925 housing units at an average density of 381.1/sq mi (147.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 79.05% White, 10.38% African American, 0.18% Native American, 6.64% Asian, 1.61% from other races, and 2.13% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.94% of the population.

There were 906 households out of which 35.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 81.1% were married couples living together, 5.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 10.2% were non-families. 7.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the village the population was spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 36.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $103,608, and the median income for a family was $108,399. Males had a median income of $72,857 versus $48,958 for females. The per capita income for the village was $43,946. About 1.5% of families and 2.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.1% of those under age 18 and 7.1% of those age 65 or over.
