The 4th District covers a vast and predominantly rural region that includes 12 counties – Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Nevada (partly), Placer (partly), Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehema, Trinity and Yuba Counties.
The places in Nevada County that are in the district include Grass Valley and Nevada City, and the CDPs of Alta Sierra, Lake of the Pines, Lake Wildwood, and Penn Valley, and in Placer County, the cities of Lincoln, Loomis, Rocklin.
The district includes the northern coast of the state, the region along the California-Oregon state line, the central portion of Northern California, and the region just north of the greater Sacramento area.
The district contains natural assets including agriculture, water, and forestry.
