Background

The song is Luv's very first commercially available single. In 1976, producers and songwriters Hans van Hemert and Piet Souer first recorded the music of a self-penned composition entitled "My Man" and were looking for female vocalists. They recruited three young women (José Hoebee, Marga Scheide and Patty Brard) to form the girl group Luv'. The lyrics of this ABBA-esque track (which dealt with a railroad man who was shot and died) shocked the Netherlands because around the time of its release, a taking of hostages happened in a train in De Punt in late May/early June 1977.

Chart performance

Though this song didn't get lots of airplay, its peak position on the Dutch Top 40 and the "Nationale Hitparade" (currently Single Top 100) was #12. It also became a Top 10 hit in Flanders (Belgium). Because of these respectable performance in Benelux, the record reached the 19th position of the Europarade (currently the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles ) which combined the weekly charts of various European countries into a single countdown.

Luv' performed the track on the famous Musikladen TV show broadcast on August 18, 1977[2] to promote it in the German speaking countries. However, "My Man" failed to break into the charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
