It lies in the Sangre de Cristo Range north of Kit Carson Mountain, about five miles (8 km) east of the town of Crestone, Colorado.

Mount Adams can be climbed using Class 3 routes via the west ridge (Willow Lake) or via the southeast face (Horn Creek Trailhead).
