Southern Downs Regional Council

Southern Downs Regional Council is a Local Government Area in Queensland, Australia. The Local Government Area was created in March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. The new Council, located in the Darling Downs, contains the entire area of two former Local Government Areas;
*Shire of Stanthorpe; and
*Shire of Warwick.

The report recommended that the new local government area should not be divided into wards and elect eight councillors and a mayor. The Southern Downs Regional Council will cover an area of convert|7120|km2|sqmi|0|lk=on, contain an estimated resident population in 2006 of 32,610 and have an estimated operating budget of AUD22.8m.

The Regional Council covers the city of Warwick and the towns of Allora, Amiens, Applethorpe, Ballandean, Dalveen, Karara, Killarney, Leyburn, Maryvale, Messines, Passchendale, Pozieres, Stanthorpe, Wallangarra, Wyberba and Yangan.
