Chennur (Telugu: చెన్నూర్,Urdu: منچیریل {{Lang-te|}చెన్నూర్}) is a town in Adilabad district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located 273 kilometres (170 mi) north east of state capital, Hyderabad, India

History
Chennoor has one of the earliest settlements, located on the banks of Godavari river. During the Godavari Pushkara times thousands of pilgrims come here to perform rituals. Generally Godavari flows from west to east but the Godavari river in Chenoor flows towards the north for 5 Kosa (15 km) hence it is known as "Panchkosi Uttara Wahini".
The place has cultural relations with villages that have similar features - Manthini, Dharmapuri and Kaleswaram.
The ancient temple "shivalayam" is also known as Agasteshwaralayam. It is believed that Agasta Muni has performed Tapasya here on the bank of River Godavari. This is believed to be built by Thimmarusu, during the Krishna devaraya times in the 16th century. Some of the other temples popular here are round temple, Jagannatha aalayam, Bada Hanuman.
Geography
Chennur is located at 21°52′00″N 85°26′00″E / 21.8667°N 85.4333°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 142 meters (469 feet).
Demographics
As of 2011[update] India census,[2] Chennur had a population of 50,000. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Chennur has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 57%. In Chennur, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Economy
Agriculture, specifically family farming, is the primary industry of Chennur was largely started by agricultural families within Adilabad district.
Chennur is Near to Maharashtra.It is only 18 Kms from maharashtra so most of the nearest villages of maharashtra used to buy goods in Chennur. Over the years it has developed into a Town with good schools and colleges. Lately, the quality of education has become quite good and is comparable to that of most towns in the state.
