public transit authority operated in Pompano Beach,Florida . The organization was created onJuly 1 ,2003 by theFlorida Legislature and enacted by theFlorida Department of Transportation . Replacing the pre-existing Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority, the goal of incorporation was to expand cooperation between the Tri-Rail commuter services and the existing countypublic transport authorities:Broward County Transit ,Miami-Dade Transit , andPalm Tran . Tri-Rail is solely operated by SFRTA.Lines
The system runs on three lines:
Tri-Rail , Metrorail, and Metromover, the latter two systems operated only in Miami-Dade County byMiami-Dade Transit . Construction on the first line, Metrorail, began in1979 , with operations between Dadeland South and Historic Overtown/Lyric Theatre (then "Overtown") inauguratedMay 20 ,1984 . Metromover and Tri-Rail opened later in1986 and1987 , respectively, with connections between commuter rail services at Tri-Rail/Metrorail Transfer Station beginning in1989 .tation listing
