Narula (Devanagari: नरूला, Gurmukhi: ਨਰੂਲਾ) is a region of Pakistan Punjab and is also common last name in India.
Narula surname
The Narula or Nirula or Naroola are sub castes of Arora's and are generally considered part of the Arora [1]. Narula's are mostly Hindu's [2] and Sikh's [3]. Narulas are from the Khatri [4] clan Punjabi [5] adaptation of Sanskrit or Pali word Kshatriya [6] (Hindi: क्षत्रिय, Kşhatriya),, a warrior community from the northern Indian subcontinent. As administrators and rulers, Khatri_Arora_Narulas were assigned with protecting dharma (Religion), and serving humanity and the world. In course of time, however, as a result of economic and political exigencies, the Khatri also expanded into other occupations.
The Narula community traces its origins to the Taxila, Potohar and Majha regions of the Punjab. These regions are historically connected with the composition of the Vedas, the Mahabharata, Ramayana and Puranas as well as more modern religious texts such as the Guru Granth Sahib. The Arora_Narula(s) originated from the ancient city of "Aror" in the northwestern part of what is now the Sindh province of Pakistan. The Hindu temples of Kabul and the Hindu Fire Temple of Baku built and maintained by them still exist. Later, some of Arora-Narula migrated to other parts of the northern part of India.
In 1947 AD, riots took place and most of the Hindu and Sikh (Narulas/Aroras/Khatries etc), living in the region of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar and other parts of western Punjab and Sindh, were forced to leave their native places. They migrated to the Northern region of India especially Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat. They were called refugees and were forced to live in shelters for many years. After years of struggle, the arora_narula caste, most of them are in the business field, have established themselves as very successful business personnel in India.
After partition of India, those left in the Pakistan were converted into Muslims. In Pakistani Punjab, they are mostly concentrated in the border town of "KASUR" near Lahore. Muslim Narulas are called in general as "Khoja Sheikhs" or "Punjabi Sheikhs".
For origin and History of Narulas, "Arora" [7] may be referred.
