The first attempt to sign him failed, as the 2.5 million dollar offer was rejected by Independiente; the president of Independiente said that he will only be leaving for 6 million dollars. However, on July 17, 2009 it was confirmed that he will be playing for Club America for the sum of 3 million dollars. He made his goal scoring debut against Deportivo Toluca F.C.with a goal from half of the pitch. Club America won 7-2 that evening. Rolfi Montenegro has family in Los Angeles in Huntington Park, Currently Rolfi and Alberto Santos are bestfriends since Rolfi used to play in Independiente de Argentina. Alberto Santos is currently a player in the U21 of Club America.
