St. Mary's UniversityProfession educator, legislator Religion Congregational David Bly (born January 8, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa) is a Minnesota politician and former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives who represented District 25B, which includes portions of Rice and Scott counties in the southeastern part of the state.[1] Communities in the district include Belle Plaine, Bridgewater, Cedar Lake, Dundas, Erin, Forest, Helena, Lonsdale, Nerstrand, Northfield, Shieldsville, Webster, Wheatland and Wheeling, as well as several townships.[2]
Bly was first elected in 2006, and was reelected in 2008.[1] He was unseated by Republican Kelby Woodard in the 2010 election, losing by 37 votes after a recount.[3] Bly was a member of the House Finance subcommittees for the Early Childhood Finance and Policy Division, the Energy Finance and Policy Division, the Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Division, and the Housing Finance and Policy and Public Health Finance Division.[4]
Bly is a teacher at the Northfield Area Learning Center and a longtime resident of Northfield.[1] He is the author of a booklet called "The Middle Class Amendment."[5]
