Marvin Maurice Jones (born June 28, 1972) is a former American football player for the New York Jets in the National Football League. Jones played middle linebacker for the Jets from 1993–2003 and recorded a career high 135 tackles in 2000. Jones was drafted in the first round with the 4th overall pick out of FSU in the 1993 NFL Draft. Jones signed a one-day contract along with Mo Lewis with the Jets to retire following the 2004 season.
Nicknamed "Shade Tree", Jones was named a first team All-Pro in 2000.[1] In that same year his alma mater Florida State inducted him into their Hall of Fame.[2] Jones finished his career with 1200 tackles, the third highest total in Jets history.[3] Jones also finished his career with 9 sacks, 5 interceptions for 42 yards, 31 pass deflections, 10 forced fumbles, and 8 fumble recoveries in 142 games.
Marvin Jones started the Marvin Jones Charitable Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting and motivating youth towards success by engaging them in positive experiences through academics, community involvement and sports.
Marvin holds an B.S in Psychology,A.S. from Charter Oak State College, a Diploma in Counseling (Dip.C. Inst. NH) and Diploma in Herbal Medicine (Dip. Herb. Inst NH) from the Institute of Natural Healing. Marvin lives in Fort Myers, Florida.
