The 2001 National Football League Draft , took place on April 21 and April 22, 2001 at the theater at Madison Square Garden, in New York City. The draft featured the Atlanta Falcons selecting Michael Vick from Virginia Tech.San Diego opted to pass on the No. 1 selection, agreeing to a trade with Atlanta Falcons for their No. 5 selection. The Falcons took Virginia Tech QB Michael Vick to begin the 246-player draft. cite news
