The 1983
National Football League Draft was held on April 26–27, 1983. It is also frequently known as the Quarterback class of 1983, because of the six quarterbacks taken in the first round. Of these quarterbacks, four have played in theSuper Bowl , and three were inducted into thePro Football Hall of Fame . The next highest number of quarterbacks taken in the first round was five, in the1999 NFL Draft . All six quarterbacks were drafted by AFC teams. In eleven of the sixteen years following the draft, the AFC was represented in the Super Bowl by a team led by a quarterback taken in the first round: theDenver Broncos by Elway, theMiami Dolphins by Marino, theBuffalo Bills by Kelly, or theNew England Patriots by Tony Eason.Player selections
