Colin Brazier

Biography

Colin Brazier was born in 1968 in Bradford and attended Carlton Bolling College. Brazier is married with five daughters and one son.

Brazier began his career in newspapers, working for The Northern Echo, Yorkshire Post and The Observer after graduating from university with a degree in English Literature and opting not to take a place as an infantry soldier with the Green Howards. After working with BBC News and ITV News, he joined Sky News in 1997, as Royal, Diplomatic and Political Correspondent. His time as a Sky News correspondent included him being the first non-American to broadcast live from Baghdad International Airport, a record which prompted the Daily Telegraph to write in a leader on 12 April entitled "Where was the BBC?": "The BBC refused to acknowledge…that American troops were in Baghdad, even though you had only to switch to Sky to see them there."

Brazier then became Sky News' Europe Correspondent following a stint in Pakistan and Afghanistan where his coverage, jointly with colleague David Chater, won a Gold Medal at the 2003 New York TV Festival.

He then moved into the newsroom to present, and covered regularly on Sky News with Martin Stanford and Live at Five as well as presenting both shifts of Sky News Today for a time. In July 2006, he reported from Northern Israel and later anchored from Jerusalem at the time of the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict.

On 19 July Brazier interviewed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Portugal.[1]

In October 2009 Colin Brazier interviewed Colonel Muammar Gaddafi of Libya in Tripoli.

From 8 September 2008 he has fronted a new show for Sky News, The Live Desk, this runs between 1pm - 2pm and then he remains on to present the headlines for Afternoon Live between 2pm and 5pm. Sky News made further changes to its schedule in February 2009 which saw the introduction an extra edition of The Live Desk between 9am and 10am. This is fronted by Brazier who then stays on to present the 1pm edition of The Live Desk.

Brazier is of Irish descent. His great-grandmother hailed from County Mayo, when Ireland was part of the United Kingdom. His great-grandmother left Mayo for England.
