The Delta Flyer is a shuttlecraft attached to the USS Voyager in the science fiction television series Star Trek: Voyager.[1]

The fictional vehicle first appeared in the episode "Extreme Risk." The model ship "was designed by series production designer Richard James and senior illustrator Rick Sternbach."[2] In the storyline of the show, it was originally the brainchild of Lieutenant Tom Paris, who took to heart Seven's suggestion (in an earlier episode) that he should build a new shuttlecraft to overcome the deficiencies of Class 2 shuttles. In the storyline, Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres contributes her engineering skills and Seven of Nine her expertise in Borg weaponry to the ship's design. Tom Paris outfitted the cockpit with manual flight controls, due to his love of flying.

In another episode, the Delta Flyer was used to test quantum slipstream technology. The original Delta Flyer was used in one episode to infiltrate a Borg Tactical Cube and it was destroyed; the crew quickly built a new version to replace it.

After the episode in which they married, newly-weds Paris and Torres used the Delta Flyer as their honeymoon vehicle.

Fans of the show from early on criticized how the USS Voyager, alone in the Delta Quadrant, seemed to have an inexhaustible supply of shuttlecraft.[3]
