The Miss North Carolina competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of North Carolina in the Miss America pageant. The competition has been held in Raleigh every year since 1978. Prior to that, it was held in various locales including Charlotte, Greensboro, Burlington, Wilmington, and Morehead City. North Carolina has once (1961) won the Miss America crown.

Rebekah Revels St. Pauls Miss Fayetteville Vocal Resigned after admitting her boyfriend had taken topless photos of her. Sued Miss NC Pageant and lost. Sued her boyfriend for taking the photos and was awarded a nominal sum. Named to represent USA in Miss World Pageant and was a finalist.

1999 Kelly Trogdon Asheboro 23 Miss Western Piedmont Vocal "It's Time" She was first runner up in the local pageant and competed for Miss NC only after the winner of Miss Western Piedmont resigned because of residency conflicts. That winner went back to her home state and eventually won the Miss Virginia Pageant and the two competed together for the title of Miss America.
