The Borough of Queenscliffe was established in May 1863.
Queenscliffe is the last
Borough remaining in Victoria and Australia, and was the only LGA to escape change in the mass Victorian municipal restructuring which took place in 1994. Had the same restructuring principles which applied elsewhere in the state also been applied to Queenscliffe, the Borough would have been absorbed into the newCity of Greater Geelong .Fact|date=April 2007Representation
The Borough, which is not subdivided into wards, is governed by a council consisting of seven councillors, including the mayor. The council is elected for four year terms. The mayor is elected annually from amongst the councillors.
