Jamie MorrisonNoisettes (occasionally written as NOISEttes to mark the difference in pronunciation from noisette - meaning hazelnut in French) are an English indie rock band from London, comprising singer and bassist Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith, and drummer Jamie Morrison. The band first achieved commercial success and nationwide recognition with the second single of their second album, "Don't Upset the Rhythm (Go Baby Go)" which reached number two on the UK Singles Chart in Spring 2009.

History
The band formed in 1996 when guitarist Smith and singer Shoniwa were attending the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon, both of whom had previously been in the band Sonarfly. Drummer Morrison (formerly of Living With Eating Disorders, Willis, Six Toes, Jaywalk Buzz, Loden Jumbo and others) was recruited after Smith saw him performing on the UK television show 'Later... with Jools Holland' with his then band, Willis.[1] The Noisettes quickly formed a reputation for being one of the rowdiest live acts in London.[2]
Early feedback about the band was largely positive. Entertainment Weekly placed the band on its November 2005 list of "Six Indie Brit Bands on the Cusp," and said the band "sound[s] like high-drama, heavily syncopated swagger-and-sway rock, spearheaded by incandescent frontwoman Shingai Shoniwa."[3] In a March 2006 article on UK bands, USA Today said, "The incendiary Shingai Shoniwa leads this London blues-punk band, known for its feral and explosive live show."[4]

Noisettes along with Paul Weller, Graham Coxon, The Smiths's Andy Rourke, and members of New Young Pony Club and Supergrass performed an exclusive rendition of a specially created track, alongside their own material, to raise money for the homelessness charity Crisis Consequences. The event was hosted at Camden's Roundhouse on 2 March 2008, and organized by Pearl Lowe.[5] Noisettes also performed at the SXSW showcasing three of their new songs from their new album, which was released on April 22 of the following year.[6] They were part of the NME/Transgressive party at the Wave venue on 13 March 2008. The set including their hit songs "Scratch Your Name" and "Sister Rosetta", with three new songs: "Beat of My Heart", "IWE", and "Atticus".[7] Noisettes performed at two day music festival Camden Crawl on 18 April 2008.[8]
In January 2009 the song "Don't Upset The Rhythm" appeared on the advert for the Mazda 2. The song was the second single from their second album Wild Young Hearts. The album was released on 20 April 2009.
On 5 February 2010 the band released a new single "Saturday Night". Video for this song was shot solely on more than a hundred mobile phones. The best footage is available for everybody to make their own video for the song at Shotbyfans.com.
For the release of the soundtrack to the winter 2009 Musical film Nine, they recorded a 50s pop-style song titled "Io Bacio... Tu Baci"
The Noisettes' "Never Forget You" is featured in the DFS furniture advertising campaign.
In Fall/Winter 2009 the Noisettes' song "Don't Give Up" has backed the "Bait" ad campaign by Timberland (footwear) for their "Mountain Athletic Series 2009" line-up in US, UK and Italy.
From February to September 2010 the Noisettes' track "Never Forget You" had been the jingle at the basis of the TV commercials and all-media marketing campaign by Vodafone in Italy. The ads featured football champion Francesco Totti and his wife Ilary Blasi acting comedy roles (project managed by the 1861 United agency).
To celebrate Dr. Martens's 50th Anniversary, in April 2010 the Noisettes released a cover of "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" by the Buzzcocks (also a video was shot featuring Shingai Shoniwa alone).
They are presently working on a new album. It is set for a 2011 release.[9]
Touring
Shingai Shoniwa performing in AtlantaNoisettes have toured Europe and the United States extensively, with the likes of TV on the Radio, Tom Vek, Babyshambles, Bloc Party and the Mystery Jets. They supported Muse on a UK and European arena tour in November and December 2006, and toured the UK to promote the release of their debut album What's the Time Mr. Wolf? in February 2007. Noisettes also appeared at the Coachella festival on 27 April 2007 and performed at the Reading and Leeds Festivals on the NME/Radio 1 Stage in August. Noisettes also made their US television debut on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on 2 April 2007. Shingai Shoniwa has provided backing vocals for many bands including Guillemots songs "Made Up Love Song#43" and "Over the Stairs". Noisettes song "Scratch Your Name" was featured on the finale episode of The Sopranos in 2007. As well, another Noisettes song was in a Bionic Woman episode.
Noisettes were set to start their first North American headlining tour but cancelled due to over-touring.[10] They still performed at the Detour Music Festival on 6 October 2007, which included a new track titled Motion in the Ocean.
The band are set to undertake a UK tour prior to the release of Wild Young Hearts, and have taken the unusual step of using their Myspace blog to appeal for local bands to appear as support acts on this tour.[11] These included Paul Dixon in Manchester, This Beautiful thief in Birmingham, Emily Breeze in Bristol, Young Fathers, Jack Butcher in Glasgow and I Am A Cult Hero in Dublin.[12]

On 28 June 2009, Noisettes played the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England as well as an acoustic version of Never Forget You backstage for the BBC. Noisettes toured as main support with Lady GaGa during the European leg of her Fame Ball Tour in July 2009.
On 5 July 2009 Noisettes performed a set on the main stage at Wireless 2009 in London's Hyde Park.
On 17 July 2009 Noisettes played "Never Forget You" on The Jonathan Ross Show on BBC1.
On 11 August 2009 Noisettes performed "Never Forget You" on The Wendy Williams Show.[13]
On 24 September 2009, Noisettes played "Don't Upset the Rhythm" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
On 28 September 2009, Noisettes were featured on the CW's One Tree Hill- Season 7 Episode 4 "Believe Me, I'm Lying".
Since the summer of 2009, the band have been tour managed by the rock photographer Peter Hill.
During the band's 2010 February tour of the UK they have been performing with a new drummer without any explanation. Jamie Morrison, their original drummer, has now also been removed from the band members section on the band's MySpace page.
In 29 May 2010, they concerted for a promotion campaign organised by Beck's beer in Bucharest, Romania.
On the 3rd of July 2010 the band played Cornbury Festival at Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire.
On the 14th of August 2010 the band played at Vintage at Goodwood in Sussex.
On the 16th of October 2010 the Noisettes performed at the Lake of Stars festival in Mangochi, Malawi.
Noisettes have announced they are to play Get Loaded In The Park 2011 on Clapham Common, London on Sunday June 12 [14]
On the 26th of June 2011 the band played at Glastonbury in Somerset again.
On the 23 July 2011 the band played at Paleo in Nyon, Switzerland.
On the 13th of August 2011 the band performed at the Summer Well festival at "Stirbey domain" in Buftea,Romania.
On the 20th and 21st August 2011 the band performed at the two-day V Festival at Weston Park, Staffordshire and Hylands Park, Chelmsford respectively.
On the 30th of September 2011 the band performed for the University of Hertfordshire's Fresher Ball in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.
