The deepsea herrings are perciform fishes belonging to a small family (Bathyclupeidae) with a single genus (Bathyclupea) containing seven species of deep water fishes.
They are marine fishes found in tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean. They grow up to about 20 cm long.
