Nishinoomote (西之表市 Nishinoomote-shi?) is a city located in Kagoshima, Japan on the island of Tanegashima.

As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 17,666 and the density of 85.9 persons per km². The total area is 205.75 km².

The city was founded on 1 October 1958.

It has been twinned with Vila do Bispo, Portugal since 1 October 1993 in recognition of the fact that it was Fernão Mendes Pinto a Portuguese who claimed to be the first European to set foot on Japan and did so on Tanegashima in 1543.[1][2]
