March 13 ,2006 , the towns of Noda and Takaono from Izumi District merged into the city. As of 2008, the city has an estimatedpopulation of 56,205 and a density of 170 persons per km². The total area is 330.06 km².The city was founded on
April 1 ,1954 .Izumi City lies at the northwestern corner of Kagoshima Prefecture. It borders
Kumamoto Prefecture . Izumi as indicated by itskanji , is the point at which theKomenotsu River flows into the sea. It is famed for its some ten thousand cranes that migrate fromSiberia every year to winter in the mild climes of southern Japan.The Kyushu Shinkansen stops at Izumi Station. It takes 25 minutes to reach Kagoshima City from Izumi by shinkansen.
