The Mount Laurel Schools is a public school district that serves students in Kindergarten through eighth grade from Mount Laurel Township in Burlington County, New Jersey.

Mount Laurel Township School District includes eight schools. The grade configuration includes six schools serving kindergarten through fourth-grade students. Students are assigned to one of the six kindergarten through fourth-grade schools based upon a geographic districting plan. All students move into the upper elementary level together for fifth and sixth-grade, and remain together for entrance to the middle school for grades 7 and 8.

As of the 2008-09 school year, the district's eight schools had an enrollment of 4,343 students and 34.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.7.[1]

The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[3]

Public school students in Mount Laurel Township for grades 9-12 attend Lenape High School, located in Medford Township.[4] The high school is one of four schools in the Lenape Regional High School District, which serves students from Evesham Township, Medford Lakes, Medford Township, Mount Laurel Township, Shamong Township, Southampton Township, Tabernacle Township and Woodland Township.[5]

A major employer within the community, Mount Laurel School District has 420 certified staff members and an additional contingent of 320 support staff. The district's transportation department operates a tiered busing system that covers the municipality's 22 square miles (57 km2) four times each day. Mount Laurel Schools' maintenance and custodial staff maintains 669,928 square feet (62,238 m2) of educational space on a daily basis.

Awards and recognition

Parkway Elementary School was one of four schools in New Jersey recognized by the national Blue Ribbon Schools Program, awarded by the United States Department of Education, for the 2005-06 school year.[6]

For the 1995-96 school year, Parkway School was named a "Star School" by the New Jersey Department of Education, the highest honor that a New Jersey school can achieve.[7]
