Ward Changes
In August 2009, after admitting it hadn’t been their finest hour, Windsor City Council reversed course from the controversial do-nothing approach taken in July 2009 and voted unanimously to implement a 10-ward electoral system for the 2010 civic election.[1] Under the new plan, voters will elect two Councillors in each of the ten new wards. The new election map will double the number of wards that have existed along unchanged boundaries for 30 years. Under the existing system, some Councillors represented Wards with disparities in population of up to 22,000 more citizens than some other councillors. The new plan will see wards of between 17,000 and 24,000 citizens based on historic and well established communities and neighbourhoods.[2]
