North East Surrey College Of Technology

The North East Surrey College Of Technology (NESCOT) is a large further education and higher education college in Epsom and Ewell, Surrey, England which attracts students from the local community, nationally and overseas.

In 2010 Nescot was inspected by Ofsted, who allegedly awarded Outstanding in the following areas:

  • Leadership
  • Management
  • Capacity to Improve
  • Support for Students
  • Tutorials
  • Enrichment
  • Safeguarding
  • Financial Management

According to Nescot's own publicity material, inspectors found that leadership and management at Nescot are outstanding and they recognised the improvements made at the college under the leadership of its principal, Sunaina Mann.

“The principal has provided inspirational leadership which has changed the culture of the college, ensuring that all staff take responsibility for improving the quality of the experience for students.” [1]

Higher Education

The college offers higher education in Osteopathy, Acoustics and Biological Science. Unusually there are progression routes from pre-entry to HE within the college, so students can remain at Nescot to take their studies forward.

Nescot is recognised as an Apple Authorised Training Centre and holds academy status with CISCO, Microsoft, and Oracle as a specialist training provider.[citation needed]

WorldSkills

In 2011, Nescot's Media students competed in and won the final of WorldSkills UK. The previous year the college's Computing department's students scored individual success in the WorldSkills 2009 final.

Location

The College is located near Epsom and frequent trains run from Ewell East, the main line station beside the campus.

Facilities

Nescot has specialist practical facilities. A large Construction department is on site with trade specific workshops for Bricklaying, Plumbing, Carpentry, Electrical Installation and Plastering.

Performance and Media have dance studios, recording facilities, dark rooms and a Mac suite. The College also has two theatres, one traditional with tiered seating and a modern performance space.

Other curriculum areas are supported with a beauty salon, onsite nursery, labs, a farm, Student Advice Centre, Learning Resource Centre - and an Osteopathy clinic.

There is a sports centre with gym which is open to the public and extensive playing fields. Local legend has it that the College is built on what was the largest field in England.[citation needed]
