History
The school was founded by Mr. Pennathur Subramaniam. The emphasis of the Tamil Nadu state Government on Tamil being used as the medium of instruction was causing a fall in Tamil Nadu’s share of employment in all-India and Central services and in the National Science and Technology establishments. In 1973 P.S. Charities promoted the establishment of English medium schools. The P.S. Educational Society started, on 9 June 1976, P.S. Senior Secondary School, starting with standards I-VII from 1976.
This group of schools, along with D.A.V Group of schools, Vidya Mandir, Bala Vidya Mandir, P.S.B.B. Group form the educational elite of the Chennai education system.
The school has been known for its unrelenting determination to achieve results and is notorious for its previous system of throwing out the weaker students in the transition between the 10th standard and 11th standard. Often students who had been with the school right from their formative kindergarten years would be refused admission into high school. The school would attribute this rejection to the fact that they weren't meritorious enough to succeed in high school, and may hence tarnish the schools golden reputation. The privileged students deemed good enough would be selected for further enrollment into high school at the P.S Senior Secondary School, and the seats created by the elimination of the 'weaker' students would be filled by accepting the top students from other local schools. This system has since been eliminated by verdict of the Madras High Court.
This decision was passed in the court case at the Madras High Court, labelled 'DR.S.Anandalakshmy versus Govt Of India CBSE'
