Dean of the United States Senate

Dean of the United States Senate

The Dean of the United States Senate is an informal term used to refer to the Senator with the longest continuous service. The current Dean is Daniel Inouye of Hawaii. This is not an official position within the Senate; however, the President pro tempore is customarily the longest-serving member of the majority party.
