Pro-Administration Party (United States)

Pro-Administration Party (United States)

Pro-Administration "Party" is a term used by historianswho to describe the supporters of the policies of George Washington's administration — especially Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton's financial policies — prior to the formation of the Federalist and Democratic-Republican Parties.

Almost the entire membership of the Pro-Administration "Party" was composed of future Federalists; the term "Pro-Administration Party" is also sometimes used to describe the supporters of the administration who didn't join the Federalist Party after its formation. This was not an actual political party; rather, this is used as a catch-all for a variety of diverse political factions.
