Situated at 41°15′N 41°59′E / 41.25°N 41.983°E its distance to Artvin is 35 kilometres (22 mi).The population of the village is town is 1288 [1] as of 2010. The area around Ortaköy was a part of Georgia in the 9th century. But after the 11th century it was controlled by various Turkic rulers and now the residents of Ortaköy are Ahıska Turks most of which still live in other Turkic countries and Russia. Ortaköy, an Ottoman town in the 19th century was abandoned at the end of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. But it was returned to Turkey at the end of the First World War. [2]
