No Mercy (2002) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) that took place on October 20, 2002, at the Alltel Arena in North Little Rock, Arkansas. It was the fifth annual WWE No Mercy event and featured wrestlers from the Raw and SmackDown! brand.^[1]

The event featured two main events. The main event from the SmackDown! brand featured WWE Champion Brock Lesnar defeat The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match to retain the title.^[2] The main event from the Raw brand was a title unification match, where World Heavyweight Champion Triple H defeated WWE Intercontinental Champion Kane to unify both titles.^[3]

The undercard featured Trish Stratus versus Victoria for the WWE Women's Championship, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit versus Edge and Rey Mysterio for the new WWE Tag Team Championship, Jamie Noble versus Tajiri for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, Rob Van Dam versus Ric Flair, Torrie Wilson versus Dawn Marie and Chris Jericho and Christian versus Booker T and Goldust for the World Tag Team Championship.^[4][5][6][7]

Background

The event featured nine professional wrestling matches with outcomes predetermined by WWE script writers. The matches featured wrestlers portraying their characters in planned storylines that took place before, during and after the event. All wrestlers were from either one of the WWE's brands - SmackDown or Raw - the two storyline divisions in which WWE assigned its employees.

The main rivalry from the SmackDown brand was between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker over the WWE Championship. At Unforgiven, Lesnar defended the title against Undertaker in a standard wrestling match. The match resulted in a no contest after the referee was attacked by brawling Lesnar and Undertaker.^[8] On September 25 edition of SmackDown, Undertaker defeated Matt Hardy, who interfered in Lesnar and Undertaker's match at Unforgiven.^[8] After the match, Lesnar attacked Undertaker with the WWE title belt.^[9] On October 3 edition of SmackDown, Matt Hardy defeated The Undertaker in a Falls Count Anywhere match after Lesnar interfered and hit an F-5 on Undertaker. Afterwords, Lesnar grabbed the propane tank and tossed to Undertaker's hand into the cage. Later that night, Lesnar was informed by his manager Paul Heyman that the SmackDown General Manager Stephanie McMahon had ordered Lesnar to defend the title against Undertaker in a rematch. Stephanie, however, announced that Lesnar would defend the title against Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match at No Mercy.^[10] The following week on SmackDown!, Lesnar and Paul Heyman found an unorthodox but very effective way to distract the Undertaker leading up to their Hell in a Cell match for the WWE title at No Mercy. Heyman and Lesnar escorted a young woman to the arena, causing speculation to swirl about her identity. During the segment, Heyman tipped his hand as he explained that the woman - Tracy - would show just what kind of man the Undertaker really is. As The Undertaker made his way to the ring, Tracy found herself in the ring staring face to face with him. She erupted into a fury and accused Taker of lying to her and sleeping with her for three months. She stated that she had no idea that Taker was married and his wife Sara was pregnant and apologized to Sara, saying she hated that the news had to be broken that way. Taker claimmed that he had never even seen Tracy before, much less had an affair with her. But all that earned him was a slap to the face from her that ended the segment. Moments later, Undertaker attempted to convince Sara over the phone that he was innocent until it became obvious that Sara wasn't buying his alibi. Sara also got a call from Lesnar as Lesnar told Sara in a mockingly insincere tone that he was concerned for her state of mind. Toward the end of the show, Undertaker would vent his frustrations on Lesnar at the end of the evening as he assaulted him, using the cast on his broken hand as a weapon. The following week on SmackDown!, Undertaker admitted in an interview that he lied about not knowing Tracy and that he knew Tracy, but insisted that it was years before he and his wife Sara even met. Tracy, however, begged to differ, and let SmackDown! General Manager Stephanie McMahon know that she and Undertaker had been together as recently as ten days earlier! Lesnar and Heyman, with their own axe of grind, demanded that Stephanie prohibit Undertaker from wearing his cast during their upcoming Hell in the Cell match at No Mercy. Intent on exacting vengeance upon Lesnar, who broke his hand in the first place, Undertaker unleashed an unspeakable fury by nailing Lesnar with the cast, bloodying him in the process. Despite that, Stephanie affirmed that Undertaker would be permitted to wear the cast into the Cell at No Mercy.

The main rivalry from the Raw brand was between the World Heavyweight Champion Triple H and the WWE Intercontinental Champion Kane. At Unforgiven, Triple H defeated Rob Van Dam to retain the World title.^[11] On September 30 edition of Raw, the Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff announced that the World Heavyweight Champion Triple H would wrestle the Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho in a Title unification match at No Mercy and the two would defend their titles later that night. Triple H advanced to No Mercy by retaining the World Championship against Bubba Ray Dudley. However, Kane defeated Jericho to win the Intercontinental Championship and advance to the title unification match against Triple H at No Mercy.^[12] The following week on Raw, Kane successfully singlehandedly defended the World Tag Team Championship (that he had won on September 23rd) in a four team Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match as The Hurricane had been attacked earlier that evening (by Triple H and Flair) and was thus unable to compete. As Kane celebrated his first Tag team title defense in a TLC match, Triple H and Flair came out with Triple H stating that Kane said, "for the first time in my life, i'm happy". He then said that he knew all about Katie Vick and accused Kane of killing her. As the show went off the air, Triple H uttered the words by saying, "Kane, you are a murderer!". On the last edition of Raw, after Kane and The Hurricane lost the World Tag team titles to Jericho and Christian, Kane addressed the crowd and admitted that he was somewhat responsible for Katie Vick's death, however, he claimed that it was an accident. According to Kane, he was simply driving her home from a party because she had too much to drink. Triple H soon came out to interject. He stated that Kane's story was only partly true and that Kane apparently forgot to mention that he too had been drinking. In addition, Triple H mentioned that at Katie's autopsy, doctors found traces of Kane's semen, leaving him to ask two upsetting questions: Did Kane force himself on her while she was alive? Or did he wait until she was dead? Toward the end of the show, Kane attempted to gain revenge on Triple H as he got to the ring, but Triple H quickly escaped. Kane then targeted his assault on half of the Raw roster by Chokeslamming them and then stared down at Triple H as they were set to square off in their Unification title match at No Mercy.

Another predominant rivalry from the Raw brand was between Rob Van Dam and Ric Flair. At Unforgiven, Flair interfered in RVD's World Heavyweight Championship title shot against Triple H. During the match, Triple H tried to attack RVD with a sledgehammer but Flair interfered in the match and snatched it from Triple H. Flair turned on RVD by hitting him with the sledgehammer and allowed Triple H to win the match.^[11] As a result of the betrayal, Flair became a villain. On September 23 edition of Raw, Triple H and Flair defeated RVD and Bubba Ray Dudley in a tag team match. After the match, RVD attacked Triple H and performed a Diving Legdrop on Triple H through the announce table.^[13] On October 14 edition of Raw, Eric Bischoff announced that RVD would wrestle Flair in a match at No Mercy. Later that night, Triple H defeated RVD in Canadian lumberjack strap match after Ric Flair nailed RVD from behind with the World title belt while the referee was distracted.^[14]

The secondary rivalry from the SmackDown brand heading into No Mercy was between the team of Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit and the team of Edge and Rey Mysterio to crown the first WWE Tag Team Champions. SmackDown General Manager Stephanie McMahon announced that a tag team tournament would take place to determine the new Tag Team Champions for the brand. The tournament started on October 3 edition of SmackDown, with the quarterfinals. Los Guerreros (Eddie and Chavo) defeated Mark Henry and Rikishi in the first match and Reverend D-Von and Ron Simmons defeated Billy and Chuck in the second match.^[10] The other two matches of the quarterfinal round took place on October 10 edition of SmackDown, as Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit defeated John Cena and Billy Kidman, and Edge and Rey Mysterio defeated Brock Lesnar and Tajiri.^[15] On October 17 edition of SmackDown, the semifinal round took place, where Angle and Benoit defeated Los Guerreros, and Edge and Mysterio defeated D-Von and Simmons.^[16] This set up the final round match pitting Angle and Benoit against Edge and Mysterio to crown the new champions at No Mercy.

The third rivalry from the Raw brand heading into the event was between the team of Chris Jericho and Christian and the team of Booker T and Goldust over the World Tag Team Championship. On September 23 edition of Raw, Jericho defeated Goldust to retain the Intercontinental Championship in a match ordered by the Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff.^[13] On September 30 edition of Raw, Jericho was confronted by Goldust's tag team partner Booker in a backstage segment.^[12] On October 7 edition of Raw, Booker defeated The Big Show in a Steel Cage match. After the match, Jericho attacked Booker.^[17] On October 14 edition of Raw, Booker retaliated by attacking Jericho before Jericho and Christian's World Tag Team Championship match against Kane and The Hurricane. However, Jericho and Christian managed to win the championships. After the match, Bischoff announced that Jericho and Christian would defend the titles against Booker and Goldust at No Mercy.^[14]

The third rivalry from the SmackDown brand heading into the event was between Jamie Noble and Tajiri over the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. On October 10 edition of SmackDown, Noble's valet Nidia was involved in a backstage confrontation with Rey Mysterio and Noble was not there to support her. She then confronted Noble, enabling the security guard to ask what the problem was. Nidia responded by slapping Noble's water bottle (w/water in it) out of Noble's hand onto the guard, prompting him to remove the two out of the arena for the night. On that evening, Noble was scheduled to team with Tajiri to take on Edge & Mysterio in the quarterfinals to crown the new WWE Tag team championship but since Noble got removed from the arena, he was replaced by Brock Lesnar in the tag team match. Edge and Mysterio still managed to win the match and advance to the Semi-Finals.^[15] On October 17 edition of SmackDown, Noble's tag team partner Tajiri served as the special referee in a match between Noble and Nidia. Noble won the match. After the match, Tajiri tried to help Nidia to her feet but she slapped him on the face, enabling Noble to attacked Tajiri from behind. As a result, Noble and Nidia kept their alliance.^[16] This led to a match between Noble and Tajiri for the Cruiserweight Championship at No Mercy.

The Divas rivalry from the Raw brand heading into the event was between Trish Stratus and Victoria over the WWE Women's Championship. At Unforgiven, Stratus defeated Molly Holly to win the title.^[18] On September 23 edition of Raw, Stratus defeated Molly and Victoria in a Triple Threat match to retain the title.^[13] On September 30 edition of Raw, Victoria attacked Stratus from behind backstage before their title match. Stratus, however, defeated Victoria by disqualification to retain the title after Victoria nailed Stratus with a steel chair.^[12] On October 7 edition of Raw, Victoria attacked Stratus after Stratus retained the title against Stacy Keibler in a Bra and Panties match.^[17] This led to a title match between Stratus and Victoria at No Mercy.

The Divas rivalry from the SmackDown brand heading into the event was between Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie. On September 26 edition of SmackDown, Wilson defeated Nidia in a Bikini contest via crowd reaction. After the contest ended, Wilson was confronted by Dawn in a backstage segment.^[9] On October 3 edition of SmackDown, Wilson introduced her father Al Wilson to Billy and Chuck. Dawn started getting affected towards Al shortly thereafter. Later that night, Torrie defeated Dawn in a Bikini contest. After the contest ended, Dawn was about to shake Torrie's hand but instead she slapped her down and tossed her out of the ring.^[10] The following week, Torrie defeated Dawn in a Lingerie contest. Afterword, Dawn wanted to shake Torrie's hand this time but Torrie this time declined and walked away as if it looks like she wasn't going to fall for another trick to an assault that happened to her the previous week. Backstage, Dawn continued to attract Al towards herself, which lead to a match between Torrie and Dawn at No Mercy.^[15][16] On the final edition of SmackDown, Dawn and Matt Hardy defeated Torrie and Rikishi in a mixed tag team match. Moments later, Torrie started looking for her dad until she went to the Women's locker room and found him in a shower with Dawn.

Event

Before the event aired live on pay-per-view (PPV), The Hurricane defeated Steven Richards in a match that aired live on Sunday Night Heat.^[5]

Preliminary matches

As the event concluded, the first match that aired was a tag team match for the World Tag Team Championship between Chris Jericho and Christian and Booker T and Goldust. Goldust and Jericho started the match but immediately tagged in to Booker and Christian respectively. Booker knocked Christian with a Punch and then a Clothesline and started chasing Jericho but Jericho hopped down from the ring apron. Goldust slingshotted Jericho over the top rope onto Christian and Booker rolled Jericho back into the ring. Goldust tagged in and performed a Double Bulldog on Jericho and Christian and then hit Christian with a Complete Shot, which he called Golden Globes and then hit Jericho with a Drop Toe Hold into the groin of Christian in the corner. Goldust followed by attempting to pin Jericho with a roll-up but Jericho kicked out at 2. Goldust attempted to perform a Hangman's Neckbreaker on Jericho, which he calls Curtain Call but Jericho avoided the move and applied an Elevated Boston Crab, which he calls Walls of Jericho on Goldust. Booker broke the hold by kicking in Jericho's head. Booker performed a Missile Dropkick. Christian grabbed one of the Tag Team Championship belts and attempted to hit Booker with it but Booker stopped the move. Jericho attempted to hit a Springboard Dropkick, but the middle rope broke. However, Jericho hit Goldust with a One-Handed Bulldog on the Championship belt and finished Goldust with a Moonsault to retain the Tag Team Championship.^[4][5][6][7]

The second match of the event was between Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie. The ring was being repaired during Dawn's entrance, as the middle rope broke down during the previous match. Torrie started the match by attacking Dawn with punches until Dawn left the ring. As Dawn returned to the ring, she started arguing with the referee. Torrie took advantage of the situation and performed a Swinging Neckbreaker on Dawn to win the match.^[4][5][6][7]

The next match was between Rob Van Dam and Ric Flair. As the match started, RVD started attacking Flair until Flair escaped out of the ring but RVD caught him outside the ring by fighting with punches. The action returned to the ring where Flair applied a Figure Four Leglock on RVD. RVD tried to reverse the hold but Flair rolled into the ropes to break the hold. Flair attempted to apply Figure Four Leglock again but RVD countered it with a Small Package for a near-fall. Flair climbed the top rope but RVD pulled him down by slamming him in the center of the ring. RVD performed a Rolling Thunder on Flair to get a near-fall. RVD followed it by performing a Five-Star Frog Splash on Flair for the victory.^[4][5][6][7]

The fourth match was for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Jamie Noble defended the title against Tajiri. The match started in the aisle when Tajiri moonsaulted Noble. The two continued to battle and their fight reached the ring where Noble dominated Tajiri for much of the earlier match. Tajiri started dominating the match by attempting a Moonsault on Noble. However, Noble avoided the move but Tajiri landed on his feet. However, Tajiri performed a Flip Over DDT on Noble. Noble recovered from the move and attempted to hit a Clothesline but missed it and Tajiri attacked him with a series of kicks and superkicked him in the chin for a near-fall. Tajiri followed by applying a Rope Hung Boston Crab, which he calls Tarantula on Noble and attempted to perform a Roundhouse Kick, which he calls Buzzsaw Kick to Noble's face but missed the move. However, he slammed Noble’s face into the turnbuckle and then hit a Buzzsaw Kick but before he could pin Noble, Noble's manager Nidia climbed the apron and kissed the referee. Noble took advantage and delivered a Sitout Double Underhook Powerbomb to Tajiri to get a near-fall. However, Noble attempted to pin Tajiri with a Victory Roll. Nidia helped Noble in pinning Tajiri to retain the Cruiserweight Championship. After the match, Tajiri delivered a Buzzsaw Kick to Noble in the back of his head.^[4][5][6][7]

Main event matches

The fifth match of the event was the main event from Raw. It was a Title unification match for Triple H's World Heavyweight Championship and Kane's WWE Intercontinental Championship. As the match started, Kane shoved Triple H into the corner. Kane continued to attack Triple H and punched him numerous times in the corner of the ring. Triple H started dominating the match by clotheslining Kane over the top rope and he landed on his feet on the outside. Triple H ran outside but Kane grabbed him by the throat. However, Triple H freed himself from Kane and slammed him into the steel ring post. Triple H returned to the ring with Kane and started gaining momentum into the match. Triple H applied a Sleeper Hold on Kane. Kane stumbled to his knees and countered the hold by performing a Vertical Suplex on Triple H. Kane attacked with punches slammed Triple H into the turnbuckle and hit a Back Body drop. Kane attempted a pinfall attempt on Triple H but Ric Flair ran into the ring and went after Kane. Flair got Kane out of the ring and Triple H went back to fight Kane in the ring. The Hurricane then ran down to the ringside area and prevented Flair from interfering in the match. This distracted Triple H and he performed a Double Underhook Facebuster, which he calls Pedigree on Hurricane. Kane recovered and regained his momentum by powerslamming Triple H in the middle of the ring. Kane attempted to pin Triple H but Triple H kicked out. Triple H climbed the top rope and attempted to hit a Diving Axe Handle but missed the move. Kane attacked Triple H and put him back on the top turnbuckle and attempted to hit a Superplex. Triple H leaped down but Kane delivered a Big Boot to his face. Kane attempted to hit Big Boot in the air at Triple H but missed and the referee received the move. With the referee knocked out, Triple H and Kane battled to the ringside area. Triple H Kane chokeslammed Triple H through the announce table. Flair tried to attack Kane outside the ring but Kane shoved him and took Triple H with him back into the ring to pin him. Flair ran into the ring with a sledgehammer and tried to attack Kane with it but Kane grabbed it from Flair and nailed him with it. After knocking out Flair, Kane focused on Triple H and tried to nail him with it, but Triple H low blowed Kane and took the weapon. Triple H attempted to hit Kane with the sledgehammer but Kane avoided the move and delivered a Chokeslam to Triple H and attempted to pin him, but the referee was knocked out cold. A new referee came in to make the count, but Flair pulled him out at the last second to prevent Triple H from losing the match. Flair then climbed the top rope to distract Kane. Kane chokeslammed Flair. Triple H took advantage and performed a Pedigree on a distracted Kane to retain the World Heavyweight Championship and unify Kane's Intercontinental Championship into his World Championship.^{[3][4][5][6][7]}

The sixth match of the event was a tag team match to determine the first-ever WWE Tag Team Champions. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit wrestled Edge and Rey Mysterio for the titles. As the match started, Mysterio dominated Angle with his speed before tagging in Edge. Angle applied a Front Facelock on Edge and ran in the ring through the ropes. Edge caught Angle with an Arm Drag and then dropkicked Angle. Benoit was tagged in and he started attacking Edge. They wrestled on the mat and Edge applied an Armbar on Benoit. Benoit pushed him back to the corner and fought out of the hold and then applied a Side Headlock on Edge in the middle of the ring. Benoit then ran through the ropes and hit a Shoulder Block and followed it up with another Shoulder Block but Edge countered with a Hip Toss and attacked him in the corner. Edge hit Benoit with a Flapjack and then slammed Benoit into the turnbuckle. Benoit sent Edge into the ropes near Angle and he attacked Edge with a Knee Lift when he hit he ropes. Edge speared Angle, who was standing on the ring apron. Benoit then slammed Edge down and delivered an Elbow Drop on him. Angle got the tag and kicked Edge in the ribs as he got into the ring. He then used the ropes as leverage and stood on the face of Edge. Angle hit a knee to the gut of Edge as Edge ran off the ropes. Angle applied an Inverted Facelock on Edge. Edge finally got up but was hit with a Belly to Belly Suplex from Angle. Angle tagged Benoit and he came in and attacked Edge in the corner. He slammed him into the turnbuckle. He pulled him out and repeatedly lifted the knee into the gut of Edge. Benoit whipped Edge into the corner and hit him with three consecutive German Suplexes in a row and then attacked on Mysterio to knock him off the ring apron. Benoit climbed the top rope and attempted to perform a Diving Headbutt on Edge but Edge avoided the move and tagged Mysterio. Mysterio ran into the ring and used his quick speed, attacking Angle off the ring apron and then Mysterio dropkicked Benoit in the face. Mysterio followed by performing a Diving Legdrop Bulldog, which he calls Droppin Da' Dime on Benoit. However, Benoit recovered and applied a Crossface, which he called Crippler Crossface on Mysterio. Mysterio got out of the move by slamming Benoit into the middle rope and attempted to hit Benoit with a Tiger Feint Kick, which he calls 619 but Benoit countered. Edge attacked Benoit and Mysterio attempted to pin, but Benoit kicked out. Mysterio climbed up top rope but Angle caught him and hit him a Belly to Belly Suplex from the top rope. Benoit took advantage and made a pinfall attempt on Mysterio but Mysterio kicked out at 2. Benoit slammed Mysterio into the corner, where Angle and Benoit double-teamed Mysterio. Angle was tagged back in and he began attacking Mysterio. Angle suplexed Mysterio to get a near-fall. Angle applied a Front Facelock on Mysterio and followed it with a Belly to Belly Suplex. He tagged Benoit in and Benoit performed a Back Body Drop on Mysterio and followed it with a Belly to Back Suplex for a near-fall. Mysterio started attacking Benoit and tagged in Edge. Angle was also tagged in at the same time. Edge attacked Benoit in the corner and Mysterio performed a Bronco Buster on a cornered Benoit. Edge hit a Hurricanrana on Angle. Benoit took advantage and attempted to hit Edge with a Diving Headbutt but Edge avoided the move and Angle was hit with it. Edge took advantage and attempted to pin Angle, but got a near-fall. Mysterio entered the ring and kicked Angle in the face. Benoit applied a Crippler Crossface on Edge from behind. Edge knocked Benoit out of the ring and tossed Mysterio onto Benoit outside the ring. Angle attempted to apply an Ankle Lock on Edge, but Edge countered it and applied the Ankle Lock on Angle instead. Angle countered the hold and applied his own Ankle Lock on Edge, making him tap out to the hold. As a result, Angle and Benoit became the first-ever Tag Team Champions.^[4][5][6][7]

The final match on the undercard was for the WWE Women's Championship. Trish Stratus defended the title against Victoria. Stratus and Victoria started the match in the ring and they quickly fought to the outside. Trish clotheslined Victoria but Victoria foughtt back and slammed Stratus on the guardrail. They got back into the ring. Victoria flipped over the top rope and performed a Diving Legdrop on Stratus. Victoria backed her into the corner but Stratus turned the momentum around and got Victoria on the top rope and hit a Hurricanrana. Victoria recovered and hit Stratus with a Scoop Slam. She hit Stratus another Scoop Slam and climbed the top rope. Stratus caught her and hit her a Back Suplex from the ropes to get a near-fall. Trish caught her and then hit a back suplex on her from the ropes for a near-fall. The two wrestled on the mat where Victoria made a pinfall attempt on Stratus but Stratus countered it and pinned Victoria with a roll-up to win the match and retain the Women's Championship. After the match, Victoria assaulted Stratus until the referee stopped Victoria from attacking Stratus.^[4][5][6][7]

The main event was a Hell in a Cell match for the WWE Championship. Brock Lesnar defended the title against The Undertaker. Lesnar started the match by applying a Bearhug on Undertaker but Taker broke free. Lesnar whipped Undertaker off the ropes and hit him with a Scoop Powerslam for a near-fall. Undertaker knocked Lesnar out of the ring. Lesnar tried to get out of the cage as he went to the cage door. After Lesnar got outside of the cage, Undertaker followed him to the outside and the two began fighting until their action returned to the ring. Undertaker used his cast on Lesnar several times, causing Lesnar to bleed. Undertaker slammed him off the ring steps and then attacked him over in the corner against the cage wall. Undertaker then drove Lesnar’s head into the steel wall of the cell. Undertaker continued his assault on Lesnar and slammed him into the cell wall again and he bounced off of the steps again. Lesnar eventually started focusing on Undertaker's injured hand but Undertaker did not lose his momentum and continued to fight back. Undertaker was distracted by Lesnar's manager Paul Heyman. Undertaker grabbed Heyman's tie through the cage and pulled him repeatedly into the cage, causing him to bleed. Lesnar took advantage of the distraction and started fighting Undertaker. He backed Undertaker into the wall of the cell and worked on the injured hand. He slammed the hand repeatedly and then tried to remove the cast. Undertaker began attacking Lesnar and prevented him from removing the cast. Lesnar took advantage of the hand's injury and continued his attempt to remove the cast. He took Undertaker back to the ring and kicked Undertaker's injured hand, which allowed Lesnar to remove the cast off of Undertaker's hand. Lesnar focused on Undertaker's injured hand and continued to attack it until Undertaker low blowed Lesnar. However, Lesnar recovered and delivered a DDT to Undertaker. Lesnar went to the outside of the ring. Undertaker recovered and dove through the ropes and attempted to perform a Suicide Dive on Lesnar but Lesnar avoided the move and Undertaker slammed right into the steel cage. Lesnar got up and slammed Taker into the cell and clotheslined him. Lesnar grabbed the steel steps and attacked Undertaker with the steel steps. Lesnar performed a Spinebuster on Undertaker and attempted a pinfall but Undertaker kicked out at 2. Lesnar attempted another pinfall but Undertaker again kicked out at 2. Undertaker got the momentum and attempted to hit an Arm Twist Ropewalk Chop, which he calls Old School on Lesnar but Lesnar dragged Undertaker down to the mat. Undertaker recovered and hit Lesnar with a Chokeslam. Undertaker made a pinfall attempt but got a near-fall. Lesnar then tried to mock Undertaker by performing Undertaker's own finisher on him, an Elevated Powerbomb, which Undertaker calls Last Ride. However, Undertaker countered it by hitting Lesnar with a Back Body Drop. Undertaker picked up Lesnar and attempted to hit him with a Last Ride but Lesnar slammed Undertaker into the turnbuckle. Lesnar started hitting Mounted Punches on Undertaker but Undertaker caught him and performed a Last Ride and attempted to pin Lesnar, but Lesnar kicked out at 2. Undertaker attempted to perform a Reverse Belly to Belly Piledriver, which he calls Tombstone Piledriver on Lesnar but Lesnar countered and performed a Fireman's Carry Facebuster, which he called F5 to win the match and to retain the WWE Championship.^{[2][4][5][6][7]}

Aftermath

On October 24 edition of SmackDown, the show's newest acquisition Big Show challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series. Later that night, The Undertaker cut a promo and showed his respect for Lesnar on their Hell in a Cell match at No Mercy. However, the promo was interrupted by Big Show, who attacked Undertaker and injured him.^[19] Lesnar's manager Paul Heyman continuously advised Lesnar to get out of the title match against Big Show at Survivor Series because Heyman thought that Lesnar could not defeat Big Show, but Lesnar intended to wrestle Big Show.^[20][21][22] At Survivor Series, Big Show defeated Lesnar to win the WWE Championship, after Heyman betrayed Lesnar and helped Big Show in winning the title.^[23]

After losing to Triple H in the Title unification match at No Mercy, Kane continued his rivalry with Triple H. On October 21 edition of Raw, Kane and Rob Van Dam defeated Triple H and Ric Flair in a tag team match. After the match, Kane and Triple H continued to brawl with each other.^[24] On October 28 edition of Raw, Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff announced that the first-ever Elimination Chamber match would take place at Survivor Series and Triple H's World Heavyweight Championship would be on the line in the match. Kane, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Booker T and Rob Van Dam were announced as the other participants of the match. Later that night, Kane and Triple H participated in a Casket match.^[25] At Survivor Series, Michaels defeated Triple H, Booker, RVD, Jericho and Kane in the first-ever Elimination Chamber to win the World Championship.^[23]
