Ningbo Rail Transit is a rapid transit system in plan and currently under construction to serve the city of Ningbo, Zhejiang and its suburbs. It is planned that 6 metro lines will be built inside the urban area of Ningbo, namely Haishu, Jiangbei, Jiangdong, Zhenhai, Beilun and Yinzhou.[1] Metro lines connecting Cixi, Yuyao and Fenghua is also under planning, but no detailed solutions of these lines have been brought to the public.[2] The construction began on June 2009, while the first phase of Line 1 is estimated to be finished on the year 2014.

Construction Plan

There are six urban lines planned in Ningbo Rail Transit system. Of which Line 1 and the first phase of Line 2 will be built before 2015. Metro lines for suburbs is also under planning. The possible number of lines is five, of which two connecting Yuyao and Cixi, namely Line R1 and R2, and three connecting Fenghua, Ninghai and Xiangshan, namely Line R3, R4 and R5. There will also be three lines in Yuyao and Cixi region, namely L1, L2 and L3.[1]

Line 1

Line 1 is a metro line with 28 stations, of which 12 are elevated, while 16 are underground stations. The construction began on June 26, 2009.[3]

Line 2

Line 2 is a metro line with 31 stations, of which 21 are underground. The construction began in December 23, 2010.[4]

Future Development

It is planned that in the year 2030, Ningbo will have six lines in urban area and eight in suburbs. Line 3, 4 and metro lines connecting Yuyao and Cixi is now under detailed investigation and will be put into construction between the year 2015 and 2020. Rolling stock

CSR Zhuzhou will provide 22 trains for Line 1.[5]
