Natalia Ermolenko-Yuzhina

Natalia Ermolenko-Yuzhina (Russian: Наталия Степановна Ермоленко-Южина; 1881, Kiev, Russian Empire – 1937, Paris, France) was a Russian opera singer (soprano).

Her real last name was Plugovskaya (Плуговская), and her pseudonym was Ermolenko. She married an opera singer David Yuzhin (his real last name was Pisitko / ru: Писитько), combined both pseudonyms and became Ermolenko-Yuzhina.[1]

She studied singing in Kiev, St. Petersburg, then in Paris and Italy [2] and began her career in the enterprise Russian opera of Aleksey Tsereteli in St. Petersburg.

The following years she was a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre (1901—1904; 1906; 1910—1913; 1915 — 1920); at the opera theatre of Sergei Zimin (1908—1910); at the Bolshoi Theatre (1906 — 1908; 1913; 1916, 1919). She appeared in the Sergei Diaghilev’s enterprise and in various European opera houses. For his performance in the Marina Mnizhek (opera Boris Godunov; 1908, Paris, Opéra national de Paris) she was presented to the Legion of Honour.[1]

Natalia Ermolenko-Yuzhina operatic repertoire includes more than 30 parties.

Her husband David Yuzhin had long been ill and died on December 28, 1923. In early 1924, she fled Bolshevik Russia and went into exile in Paris. At this time there was already working troupe of Russian opera of Aleksey Tsereteli. She appeared in the troupe of Russian opera, in the Opéra national de Paris and in concerts of opera music.

Natalia Ermolenko-Yuzhina died in Paris in 1937.
