They were a predecessor to the current Nantucket Harbor Range Lights.
The front light was the then current tower of Brant Point Light, built in 1856. The rear light, beginning in 1869 was a wood structure "on rising ground, about one mile in rear of Brant Point lighthouse, which could be moved to accommodate changes in the location of the channel." Before that it was a light in the keeper's hut.[1].
