NUS Business School

Established in 1965, National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School is known for providing management thought leadership from an Asian perspective, enabling its students and corporate partners to leverage global knowledge and Asian insights. This combination of global expertise and Asian acumen is reflected in all aspects of its research, teaching and industry outreach. As Asia's Global Business School, NUS Business School is a leading authority on business in Asia.

The school has consistently received top rankings in the Asia-Pacific region by independent publications and agencies, such as the Financial Times, Economist Intelligence Unit, and QS Top MBA, in recognition of the quality of its programmes, faculty research and graduates.

The school is accredited by AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System), endorsements signifying that the school has met the highest standards for business education. It is also the first business school in Asia to be a full academic member of CEMS, which is a strategic alliance of leading business schools and multinational companies. Academic institutions included in the CEMS network are widely reputed to provide the highest standards of teaching and research.

The school has more than 110 research faculty, over 2,500 BBA, MBA, Executive MBA, and PhD students; more than 2,000 annual participants in Executive Education programmes; and over 45,000 alumni in diverse organisations and positions of leadership throughout the world.

NUS Business School is located at the university’s main campus at Kent Ridge. In 2009, the school moved into the new Mochtar Riady Building.^[1] Its current Dean is Professor Bernard Yeung.

History and Milestones

1961
Business Administration was introduced as a course in the Department of Economics at the University of Singapore, with staff seconded from the University of British Columbia.

1965
The Department of Business Administration was set up on 16 August, under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

1966
Enrolment of first cohort of 24 students.

The University of Singapore Business Administration Society was formed.

1969
Formation of the School of Accountancy and Business Administration with the merger of the Department of Business Administration of the then Singapore University and the Department of Accountancy of the Singapore Polytechnic.

1972
Graduation of the first batch of 26 students in the Diploma of Business Administration programme.

1978
Implementation of joint-campus scheme between the Nanyang University and the University of Singapore.

1978 - 1980
Relocation from Bukit Timah to Kent Ridge campus.

1980
The Faculty of Accountancy and Business Administration was formed at the newly established National University of Singapore.

Launch of part-time MBA Programme.

1982
Launch of Modern Management (Mandarin) Programme.

1983
Reorganisation of Faculty of Accountancy and Business Administration into School of Accountancy and School of Management.

Launch of Stanford-NUS executive programmes in Asia.

Formation of the NUS MBA Club.

1985
Formation of MBA Alumni.

1987
School of Accountancy moves to newly-formed Nanyang Technological Institute.

Faculty's name shortened to the Faculty of Business Administration.

1992
Launch of Modern Management Programme (Mandarin) Alumni.

1993
Introduction of a first hybrid modular system by Faculty of Business Administration.

1994
Launch of a Mandarin MBA Course with Tsinghua University.

1997
Launch of Asia-Pacific Executive (APEX) MBA in both English and Chinese.

1999
Faculty of Business Administration ranked the top MBA school in Asia by Asia Inc. magazine.

2000
Formation of NUS Business School Alumni Association.

Centre for e-Business was set up.

2001
Launch of International MBA (IMBA) double degree programme in collaboration with Peking University.

The NUS MBA programme was ranked among the Top 100 MBA programmes globally by the Financial Times.

2002
Faculty of Business Administration renamed School of Business.

School ranked among Top 100 Business Schools globally by Economist Intelligence Unit.

Launch of Corporate Governance and Financial Reporting Centre.

2003
Received AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation.

Launch of NUS-UCLA Executive MBA double degree programme in collaboration with UCLA Anderson School of Management.

2004
Launch of Saw Centre for Financial Studies.

Launch of the NUS MBA with specialization in real estate with School of Design and Environment.

Launch of NUS Business School Overseas Alumni Chapter in Beijing.

2005
NUS Business School celebrates 40th Anniversary.

Launch of the MBA with specialisation in healthcare management with the Faculty of Medicine.

Launch of MSc (Management) for all NUS undergraduates and a double honours degree programme with NUS Faculty of Law.

NUS Asia-Pacific Executive MBA ranked 30th globally by the Financial Times.

2006
NUS MBA ranked 92nd globally by the Financial Times, including No. 5 in international mobility and No. 12 in international experience rankings.

The NUS MBA was ranked 99th globally by Economist Intelligence Unit.

Launch of Building Excellence Campaign.

School received a $21 million gift from the Lippo Group and the Riady family.
