NFL attendance

NFL attendance

The National Football League is the largest live spectator sport in the world in terms of average attendance. Despite the recession and rising ticket prices,[1] as of the 2009-10 season the NFL averaged 67,509 live spectators per game, and 17,282,225 total for the season.[2]

Although average attendance is the highest in the world, ticket sales have been declining since the recession began in 2007. The 2010-11 season attendance numbers are expected to decline slightly as well.[3] The recession, rising ticket prices,[4], competition with other sports, competition with other forms of entertainment like movies, and high television coverage[5] have all been to blame for declining league attendance.
